If there’s one thing that pops to mind when I imagine a holiday to Indonesia, it’s the beautiful villas that are available at affordable prices.
I previously visited Bali a couple of years ago and the experience was amazing. The only regret I have is that I didn’t book my accommodation in advance and so I wasn’t able to experience my quick getaway in a relaxing villa, especially since there were three of us and we wanted to stay in the same place but in different rooms. Trust me, I tried, the ones available were way out of budget!

This year, I have way less travel plans than the last couple of years due to the new role I’ve taken on which means I’m now on full steam ahead! Let’s just say, short getaways are way more achievable now than long ones. The best way to satiate my wanderlust would definitely be to consider more weekend trips to places like Indonesia, which isn’t too far away and rather accessible from Singapore. I guess rushing around on sightseeing binges may not be my top priority and lounging out and spending time away from the bustle of hyper connected Singapore might just be what the doctor ordered.
Short getaways are so easily accessible these days through budget airlines and booking websites
Indonesia is still unchartered territory for me. I’ve only ever travelled to Batam and Bali because those are popular destinations for travel, but while I was still working in the hotel industry, I was aware that some of my colleagues would skip over to Bandung, known as the vibrant Parijs van Java (Paris of Java), for a three day two night vacation. I honestly had no idea what to do there, so I did a bit of research and found out that it could be a scenic experience.

If I felt adventurous, I could potentially do a day trip to Kawah Putih, a stunning volcanic crater, popular with tourists in south of Bandung in West Java or feed my artistic appetite with a stroll at the historic Jalan Braga (Braga Street), lined with classic European architecture, colonial buildings, peppered with cafes and gorgeous artwork that is often available for sale on the street sides.
Unique photo opportunities abound at the Floating Market Lembang and family-friendly attraction, Dusun Bambu (Bamboo Village) where you can canoe, hike or just admire the view of paddy fields and flower gardens. I thought it made a great place for photoshoots!

Villa Adelia
I also checked out the accommodation options, in particular villas in Bandung, to see kind of budget I’d be working with if I wanted to escape from the stress of city living in Singapore.
I played around with Traveloka, Indonesia’s no.1 hotel and flight booking website, and found well priced options like Villa Istana Bunga and private pool villas like Omah Angkul Angkul Pool Villa for a more indulgent stay. Modern villas such as Villa Adelia could also prove to be a great place to unwind at.
A trip to Bandung definitely something I could easily do without much planning or fuss for one of the long weekends.
